The new Macau Tourism and Cultural Activities Center (CATC), adjacent to Macau’s most recognized landmark, the Ruins of St. Paul’s, is located in one of the city’s densest concentrations of tourism traffic. As such it serves as a highly valuable resource, offering information, relaxation and souvenir shopping in a one-stop venue amid some of the city’s most colorful and interesting surroundings.
The Center officially opened on September 27 at a ceremony presided by Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture Cheong U, MGTO Director João Manuel Costa Antunes, Deputy Directors Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes and Manuel Pires, travel trade representatives and other guests participated in the ribbon-cutting ceremony and tour of the new facility.

Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture Cheong U, accompanied by MGTO Director João Manuel Costa Autunes led a group of officials to participate in the 19th Session of the UNWTO General Assembly in Gyeongju, Korea from October 9 to 11.
Cheong U and his delegation attended the Opening Ceremony where Korean Prime Minister Kim Hwang-Sik, UNWTO Secretary-General Taleb Rifai and United Nations Deputy Secretary-General Asha-Rose Migiro officiated.
Cheong U also took part in the Ministerial Round Table on "Fostering Growth and the Achievement of the Millennium Development Goals through Tourism, Culture and Sports" and delivered a presentation on the importance of tourism to Macau and the goal of developing Macau into a World Center of Tourism and Leisure.

Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture Cheong U and MGTO Director João Manuel Costa Antunes met on September 15 with a group of experts headed by Andrew Drysdale, from the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA). Also present at the meeting were MGTO Deputy Director Manuel Pires and Organizational Planning and Development Department head Cheng Wai Tong.
Following a request from MGTO to establish a task force to provide expert opinions in determining future tourism policies and plans required to consolidate Macau’s positioning as a World Center of Tourism and Leisure, PATA, the region’s leading tourism organization, had appointed seven experts from the academic and consultancy fields ranging from aviation to destination management and branding. The task force is expected to submit a report to MGTO by beginning of 2012.
